The Louisiana Sea Grant Program is seeking a Communications Coordinator that can perform the following duties:
Writes and edits for print, web and video communication/outreach products – including technical reports. Researches and conducts interviews to gather material for printed articles, videos, website content, social media, conference and workshop exhibits. Shoots still photography and video, and assists in maintaining and managing photography and video catalog/archive. Records and edits audio for various communication/outreach products. Works closely with and assists staff in other Sea Grant advisory projects in developing outreach products. Participates in conferences and workshops. Some overnight travel may be involved.
Responsible for the creation of designs, concepts, and layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts. Operates desktop publishing software and equipment including, but not limited to InDesign and Photoshop. Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and selects styles and fonts to produce camera ready copy for monthly newsletters, proposals, logos and educational materials.
Assists with public relations involving news releases and other information projects that require direct contact with the media and/or public. Represents Sea Grant in a media relations capacity at appropriate public events. Works closely with LSU Strategic Communications.
Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of communications, scientific research or teaching experience.
Bachelor’s degree with two to eight years of experience with database management, development of graphic layouts, and understanding of Louisiana Coast.
