The Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission is looking for a dynamic, visionary leader to help guide it toward continuing growth and success. The Commission was formed in 1949, by state legislative action and is authorized by the U.S. Congress through P.L. 88 61.

Those legislative actions resulted in the establishment of a compact, which is a treaty among states, in this case including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The purpose of organization is to provide an administrative vehicle to promote the better utilization of the fisheries, marine, shell and anadromous, of the seaboard of the Gulf of Mexico, by the development of a joint program for the promotion and protection of such fisheries and the prevention of the physical waste of the fisheries from any cause.

The Commission seeks a strong leader with excellent partnership-building, resource conservation and management, and administrative skills.  This position is organizationally within the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission (GSMFC) and receives guidance and review from the GSMFC Commissioners.
